As a kid, I used to fantasize about eating all the Baskin Robbins chocolate chip ice cream I could stomach. It seemed like the epitome of indulgence in my young mind. I laugh at it now because, in truth, I had plenty of ice cream. Baskin Robins was only a few miles from my home, and I routinely rode my bike there to gobble down a whole pint! Yet, on some level, I knew that my middle-class family couldn’t give me everything (let alone an endless supply of ice cream!). There were things we simply could not afford (a fact I am now grateful for).
As an adult, I realize that feeding my personal appetites isn’t enough. I have to go beyond my own indulgences to become a blessing to others. This requires both heart and resources. My heart is willing and, fortunately, I don’t have to rely on my family or my own limited resources to put this into action. I can rely on the One who is generous and limitless. The One who has more than enough to meet every need and is more than happy to share.
I am so very grateful for the opportunity to give. If you are like-minded, I challenge you to begin giving (or increase your giving) this year. Believe me, the blessing will ultimately be yours.
