There’s something about good character. It seems like an outdated concept these days. Everyone seems focused on themselves, interpreting ‘good’ based on their own desires. But the truth is that we are all skewed. Not one among us has had a perfect childhood or a perfect life. We are scarred. Those scars cause us to see things, not as they are but as we interpret them through our pain, disappointments, and trauma. We need a standard. An infallible, unchangeable plumbline to help us know good. And, even more, to help us enact good.

I am grateful that I can rely on the Word of God to be the standard in my life. I don’t always measure up, but I am thankful for its unremitting truth that draws me to goodness.
