Celebrate Culture

by | Aug 11, 2024 | Diversity

I’m an Olympics buff. We always made a big deal of it in my household growing up and I still love to watch it, summer and winter! This year, I’ve been especially taken by the national pride and all the different cultures on display. It led me to some self-reflection concerning my own culture. While it is often not depicted in the best light, I love my culture. I love the beauty of the men, the strength of the women, the ability to overcome, and all the shared memories of those in my generation who were raised Black in America. It’s a treasure to me. Yet, the love I feel for mine does not cause me to diminish yours. I don’t have to reduce you to build me up. I can value both, and yes, even all.

I am grateful to be who I am. I am grateful for my culture and all that it means to me. I celebrate that the Lord made us different, yet equal in value. I celebrate us, in all of our forms!
