Generational Blessing

My daughter has freckles. Light though they may be, they are a symbol of our indelible connection. Not so common among African Americans, they create a special bond between her and me. Most of us enjoy the ways our children take after us. It gives us a sense of hope for the future, and maybe even a small sense of immortality. This connection to our children is one we hold in tension. They are like us, yet fully and truly their own. They have their own being, their own vision, and their own calling to fulfill. If we’re smart, we’ll accept that early and focus on preparing them to soar. It’s what we want for them, right? To come into their own being, to walk out their vision, and to fulfill their God-given calling. It will be the place of their greatest joy.

I am grateful to the One who forms us and calls us into a rich vision for our lives. He does it for us but, more importantly, He does it for our beloved mini-mes. When we follow Him, He provides for this generational blessing of fruitfulness and joy.
